2003 Award Winners

Here are our award winners, announced at the division luncheon at the AECT annual meeting in Anaheim in October 2003.

1. The Outstanding Practice Award went to Kimberly Kostka (University of Wisconsin ñ Rock County), Penny Ralston-Berg (University of Wisconsin ñ Learning Innovations), and Katherine Bichler (University of Wisconsin ñ Manitowoc County), for their work in designing an on-line chemistry laboratory course.

2. The Outstanding Journal Article Award went to Amy Baylor (Florida State University) for her article entitled ìExpanding Preservice Teachersí Metacognitive Awareness of Instructional Planning Through Pedagogical Agentsî, published in Educational Technology Research and Development in 2002 (volume 50, issue 2).

3. The Robert M. GagnÈ Award for Outstanding Research by a Graduate Student went to Paul A. Fritze (University of Melbourne, Australia), for his dissertation entitled ìInnovation in University Computer-Facilitated Learning Systems: Product, Workspace Experience and Organization.î His dissertation supervisor was Professor Carmel McNaught.

4. The Nova Southeastern University Award for Outstanding Practice by a Graduate Student in Instructional Development went to Paul Baker (Florida State University) for his work in designing a print-based unit designed to teach United States Coast Guard Boarding Officers the conditions under which they have the authority and jurisdiction to board vessels.

5. The Presidential Award for Outstanding Service to the Division went to Ward Cates (Lehigh University), for his many years of outstanding service, including his recent stint as Division president. Ward is D&D representative to the AECT Board and has been very active and supportive in every aspect of D&D for more years than anyone can remember. Thanks again, Ward.
